Chronicle of the World Rural Forum representatives in RIO 20

The members of the World Rural Forum, José Antonio Osaba and Conchi Quintana and peasants’ representatives from four continents have been involved in several meetings in Rio +20.

You can find below their chronicle:

In Rio Center, the official venue of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, Rio +20, where you must be registered and accredited to enter, and Aterro Flamengo and the Dome of the People, exclusive locations for Civil Society , there are plenty of spaces, events, conferences, dialogues, debates, which sums up the aspirations, complaints, suggestions, etc.. of much of humanity.

The different peasant’s sensitivities, one of seven major groups recognized by the Conference, have sought consensus at the presentation of a document on Food Security and Sovereignty to the official UN Conference. We believe that the efforts of all parties have paid off and it will be a text of great value that we want to send as early as possible that is.

Among so many groups today, our group of farmers and rural organizations on four continents, Africa, Latin America, Asia and Europe come together to promote Family Farming and the 2014 IYFF, and work actively to promote its objectives.

Today, 19th June, there was another meeting of the World Consultative Committee of the 2014 IYFF Campaign, involving all its members, and PAFO & INADES from Africa, COPROFAM & RELACC from Latin America, CIFA & AsiaDHRRA from Asia, and UPA & AFDI from Europe.

In the spirit of increasing the number of members will attend the WCC the African Artisanal Fishermen, CAOPA, and the Young French Farmers, JA and others.

The 21st June, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., we will celebrate an important event on Family Farming, with the participation of the Director General of FAO, the Minister of Agrarian Development of Brazil, IFAD, etc.. with all our organizations from 4 continents.

Although these mass gatherings may seem less operational, we recognize that it helps the progress of humanity for more equitable and sustainable solutions. The claim of our 2014 IYFF: Feeding the World, Caring for the Earth, shines.
